A Year In The Cathedral
£15.00
A sanctuary throughout a besieged city’s history, Carlisle’s small cathedral, approaching its 900th year, reluctantly closes its doors during the first Covid lockdown.
Drawing on his own distinctive prose and poetry style, having previously portrayed the city in haiku form, David Simmons unlocks an extraordinary year inside the cathedral. During a period of personal isolation, he undertakes, through the structure of haiku, to capture the essence of the Sunday Eucharist bible readings and sermons.
The process reopens doorways to lifelong learning, the expression of emotional truths, and the realisation of the awesome power of the natural environment, whilst telling of his whole haiku journey.
