23 is a new collection of words and pictures by Barbara Renel and Paul Taylor. The words are a gathering together and weaving of memories, dreams and reflections, while the pictures are a sequence of interrelated images that respond to the text.
Rooted in the Cumbrian landscape, at the core of 23 is the act of making patterns from fragments of experience. It weaves themes including the consolations (or not) of nature, textures of tapestry, etchings, tattoos, the music of Arvo Pärt and Joni Mitchell, the sculpture of Cumbrian artist Lorna Graves and the movement of dance, with the almost invisible motif of the number 23.
