Steamers of the Lakes
Volume 1 : Windermere
£9.00
The Windermere Steam Yacht Company introduced steam navigation in the form of the ‘Lady of the Lake’ in late July 1845, only 33 years after the pioneer steamship the ‘Comet’ had raised many eyebrows as she sailed down the Clyde for the first time.
Built locally, at Greenodd, ‘Lady of the Lake’ was the first of many distinguished steamers to convey the masses of tourists up and down the lake, as her descendents do today.
