This is the story of a picturesque Cumbrian coastal town set on the beautiful Solway coast. It is the story of several different communities which evolved over a time span of 2000 years beginning with the Roman invasion of the first century and ending with the tourist ‘invasion’ of the twenty-first.  Although authoritative, the text is written in a very readable manner and is illustrated by over 170 photos, maps and diagrams. The author is an experienced speaker and writer on many aspects of Cumbrian history and has published over a dozen books and e-Books, many based on the adult education courses he has led.
