In 1854 a man shot a ship-owner, in broad daylight, in a Maryport street. His reasons for doing so sprang from a convoluted tale of love, delusion, hatred and insanity. The results of his actions were dire.

Inspired by real events, and real people, this novel is an imagined reconstruction of how things might have been, the causes and the consequences.
