The Place I Belong

The Place I Belong. A patch of grass, lumps of concrete, sturdy steel framework and a few thousand seats. Hardly the idyllic setting many would choose when imagining their heaven on earth.

My oasis of calm isn’t a sun-drenched beach, a luxurious palace or a tranquil cottage in the countryside… It is a football ground nestled behind a row of terraced houses, where the elation of victory and the heartache of defeat are interwoven.

Hopefully this book will explain why – my semi-autobiographical jaunt through the years of devotion following the mighty Cumbrians. We all have a story to tell. This is mine.

They say the best things in life are free, but this is not strictly true. My love and support for my football club has not been cheap, but the rewards have been priceless. What began as an awakening has turned into an obsession which, at times, can be quite inexplicable.

‘The Place I Belong‘ is not just about me. It is a book about the relationship between fans and their football club. Any football club. I just happen to support the best one – Carlisle United. Alongside my own story, dozens of like minded supporters have contributed to this tale of loyalty, obsession, love and passion. United for United.
