Over the Fells

In former times pack-horses were part of the everyday scene on the Lakeland fells, so when author Bob Orrell and his young friends Abi, 13 and Philip, 12 planned a walking trip they included Thor, Bob’s fell pony to carry the tent and provisions. Bob’s border collie, Sammy, refused to be left behind and so they set out as a party of five from High Gillerthwaite Farm in Ennerdale to follow the old pack-house routes and smugglers’ tracks.
