The Gate-A history of Shaddongate United F.C.

A history of football in Carlisle from the formation of the Carlisle Association side in 1878 to Carlisle United’s election to the Football League Third Division (North) in 1928.

Shaddongate United Football Club was formed in 1897 and went on to become Carlisle United in 1904. This story charts the development of the game in the Great Border City from it’s early roots in 1878 to United being elected members of Football League Third Division (North) some 50 years later.
