Revealing Cumbria’s Past
150 Years of the Cumberland and Westmorland Antiquarian and Archaeological Society
This wide-ranging book, published to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the Cumberland and Westmorland Antiquarian and Archaeological Society, tells the story of the Society from the inaugural meeting in Penrith in 1866 up to the present day, and reveals the significant contribution that the society and its members have made to the development of our understanding of the history and archaeology of Cumbria.
The contributors have drawn on the Society archives, the wealth of material contained in its annual ‘Transactions’ (now newly digitised), and its extensive publications programme, to create a volume that will be of interest to all those fascinated by the county’s past, from prehistory to the twenty-first century.
