Rosehill – The Story of a Theatre 1959 – 2009
£10.00
Rosehill Theatre, near Whitehaven on Cumbria’s coast, was founded in 1959 largely on the initiative of Sir Nicholas Sekers.
Having emigrated from Hungary in 1937, he founded his fabrics business in Whitehaven which went on to supply major fashion houses including Givenchy and Dior. A passionate supporter of the arts, he brought in his friend and world-renowned designer, Oliver Messel, to design Rosehill’s interior and create a ‘rose-red silklined jewel box.’
Throughout its fifty years this unique theatre, initially created from a remote hill-top barn, has presented some of the greatest names in drama and music. It is a remarkable story.
