Hawkshead Revisited
£6.99
‘Hawkshead Revisited’ is a book written both as a history and guide to this historic Lakeland village steeped in history and will be of interest to tourists and locals alike.
The book is lovingly put together by local historian John Dixon, whose family has lived there for many generations. John himself was born and brought up in the village and is a well known local figure. He has done many guided walks around the village, for which he dresses in early 19th century squire’s attire, in top hat and tails, sporting a silver topped walking stick. He found that there was a definite need for a guide book as many visitors had never wandered through its many nooks, alleyways, hidden squares and streets.
This book is compiled and based on those guided tours, to open up Hawkshead to the visitor and those with an interest in this old market town. the book is filled with the many interesting old buildings, the people that lived and worked there, together with interesting folklore. many only connect Hawkshead with William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter, but hopefully the reader will find that there is a lot more to Hawkshead.
