Sea, Sand and Stukas
£10.00
The journey to Tobruk from a Cumberland soldier’s diary.
Ravenglass man Stewart McVey said goodbye to his wife at the beginning of September 1941. He felt it might be some time before he was back. He was not to know it would be over two years.
His diary cheerfully describes life on board ship on the journey round the Cape to North Africa and the sights and sounds at the various ports of call.
Once in the desert, Stukas and Messerschmitts made life very different.
This is the war diary of an intelligent, able, entertaining man, trapped in a terrifying world. It is the story of so many people from those years.
