Whitehaven and Workington 1903-1914

Old Ordnance Survey Maps of Cumberland

£3.50

  • One inch to One mile map
  • These maps normally cover an area of about 18 miles by 12 miles and are especially good at showing railways, roads and canals, and at giving a broad view of a wider area. Each includes an introduction and a more detailed map of a small town or village.
  • This Inch to the Mile map covers the Cumbrian Coast area from Workington southward to St Bees, and inland to Ennerdale Water. A major feature is the network of railways around Whitehaven and Workington, including Cleator Moor and Harrington; most of these have long since closed. The map therefore covers a substantial part of the West Cumberland iron and coal fields. On the reverse we include a detailed map of the village of St Bees.It is not possible to list the many hamlets, farmsteads and other topographical features shown on these maps. However, you may find it useful if we list the towns and principal villages or church parishes that are included on this map. Links are provided for those for which detailed plans are available-Arlecdon, Cleator, Cleator Moor, Dean, Distington, Eaglesfield, Egremont, Frizington, Great Clifton, Greysouthern, Harrington, Hensingham, Lamplugh, Litle Clifton, Moresby, Parton, Rottington, Salter & Eskett, Sandwith, St Bees, Stainburn, Weddicar, Whitehaven, Workington
