Lancashire & Cumberland’s Last Days of Colliery Steam

Collection of early 1970s photographs taken by the author chronicling, as the title suggests, the final days of steam locomotion at collieries in Cumberland and Lancashire.

The photos are accompanied by detailed captions identifying the locomotives and giving an account of their smoke-filled lives. The locations featured are principally around Whitehaven, Leigh and Wigan. Collieries featured include Haig Colliery, Bickershaw Colliery, Lowca, Harrington, Ladysmith, Walkden, Astley Green and Bedford.
