A Canon in Keswick

A Keswick anthology by Canon Hardwicke Drummond Rawnsley

Stephen Matthews (Ed)

£12.00

Canon Hardwicke Drummond Rawnsley (1851-1920) was vicar of Crosthwaite for 34 years.

He established the Keswick School of Industrial Arts. He was one of the founders of the National Trsut and was directly responsible for the Trust owning vast tracts of land in the area.

He re-created old customs and erected monuments. He sought to develop his vision of a Ruskinian society in the town.

He wrote widely on the Lakes and on the Keswick area. He wrote about the scenery, about the history, about the literature and about the local characters and events.

His essays provide a very full picture of Keswick as it was a century ago. This anthology offers a generous selection from his finest writing.

In the Introduction, Stephen Matthews outlines Rawnsley’s very active life and surveys the wide range of his literary work.
