Join Bookends for an evening of poetry as Mary Robinson and Malcolm Carson read from their latest collections.
Mary Robinson lived in Cumbria for many years and is well-known in the local poetry community. Her latest collection Cynefin explores the sense of belonging and rootedness she feels in her native North Wales. The exploration of people, language, history, geography, ecology and culture can have a more universal scope and resonate with the strong identity Cumbria holds for so many.
Malcolm Carson is originally from Cleethorpes but has lived in Carlisle for many years. He has had 6 poetry collections and one pamphlet published by Shoestring Press and has been a pivotal figure in the local poetry community for many years. His latest collection Winging It combines the dark with the light with pithy and wry verse morphing into deeper meaning, sadness and reflection. It’s an entertaining yet thought-provoking collection which has received wonderful reviews.
‘Mary Robinson is able to slow the world in order for us to see things in their extraordinary detail‘, Rebecca Goss
‘Musical, resigned, sensuous… so persuasive is Carson’s voice.’ Nigel Jarrett, Acumen
